Former Northern Cape Public Works MEC and African National Congress (ANC) heavyweight, John Block has been granted R50 000 bail in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court.
This is in relation to the awarding of a multi-million rand tender for the construction of the Kimberley Mental Hospital in 2003.
Block is already serving a 15- year jail sentence for fraud, corruption and money laundering in the Trifecta case. Meanwhile, the National Prosecuting Authority’s Mojalefa Senokoatsane says they too are happy with the bail outcome.
Both Block and Senokoatsane explain. We are happy with the bail hearing. I’m glad it’s done. It’s over now.”
“We found no grounds as the NPA to oppose bail. Even though there are conditions that have been set. We must also remember that this applicant, although he is granted bail of R50 000. He is still in the Upington prison because he is currently serving a 15-year sentence. Block appeared physically in court and told the SABC he is happy that his bail application was successful.
